Here I am, at long last

I've been meaning to set up a dw account for a while, was spurred on with the closing of Imzy, and here I am! Haven't set up too much... or explored much... but the account has been made which is the first step!

Funny that I set up a new account just as my life starts to get busy...

(also, got little to no experience, as I didn't really use LJ when it was around, I just binged fics on ffDOTnet... lol. Hopefully I make a better go of making fandom friends this time around).

Hello! I notice we have a couple of interests in common. If you are new (and haven't already) it's worth making an introduction post to somewhere like [community profile] 2017revival and/or the current friending meme so that people can find you. (I ended up here via some late night pondering of "should omgcp be listed as 'check please' or 'omg check please'?" turns out the first has more users)

I didn't use LJ when it was in either. I absolutely just binged fics on FFNet as well, and hopped between message boards, neopets and gaiaonline.

I got into message boards because of Canadian Idol. I used the boards on the CI website and then once the competitor I liked got eliminated I lurked on the boards of the heavy metal band he and his brother were in and rejoined when a site dedicated to him was made and I made my first set of fandom friends from there. I still have those lovely women all on Facebook now.

I used to love leaving comments on FFNet and getting shoutouts from the author at the end of the story. I remember one Dramione fic in particular.

CTV really advertised the message boards during the show. They'd be like go to our website with a link to the website on TV to chat with other fans of your favourite competitor.

This is the Dramione fic https://www.fanfiction.net/s/2983290/1/The-Quarter-Moon-Gamble. I don't really remember other fics from around 06 except for that one. All I remember is I'd get to stay up late online Friday nights and I'd spend hours on FFN. Otherwise, I just read like 1000/2000 word fics while my parents were out shopping because of a shared family PC on dial-up in the living room. My preferred pairings were Ron/Hermione, Draco/Hermione, Draco/Ginny, and occasionally I'd read a Hermione/Ginny fic or two.

I remember I didn't read my first mslash fic until 2009 and it was Draco/Ron because I was confused as to how they'd be compatible.

They were ahead of their time. Every CTV original had a message board and a website. Some even had games (The Corner Gas car fueling game was hilarious)
